3 WAYS TO IMPROVE HEART HEALTH

    June 5, 2023 in LIFESTYLE

Heart health is vital to your sense of well-being, and as cardiovascular disease is one of the biggest killers in the world, it’s essential to prioritise your heart and look after it properly. What does it take to ensure that you are looking after your heart properly and boosting your heart health? Let’s show you a few simple things that you can incorporate into your daily life.

Regular Check-Ups to Improve Heart Health

You can make changes to your diet, but you need to start prioritising check-ups to see if your heart is functioning as it should. It’s so easy for us to ignore little quibbles or issues or potentially not even notice that we’ve got a problem, which is why a trip to the doctor or even a private cardiology clinic will ensure that you can keep any concerns at bay. Additionally, you should check your blood sugar and your blood pressure because you may not exhibit any symptoms if you’ve already got high blood pressure, and this can cause damage to your heart in the long run. Prevention and maintenance are critical, especially as we get older, and those regular check-ups will do so much for your heart health and your frame of mind.

    Prioritise Calmness

It’s something we don’t necessarily think of in relation to our heart health, but stress in all of its forms raises the stress hormone cortisol, and this can physically interfere with the circulation in the body and therefore causes the heart to work harder. We don’t always necessarily consider stress as being a physical thing, but when you start to pay attention to the signs of tension in your body and start to prioritise calmness by choosing a practice that works for you, you will benefit. You don’t necessarily have to choose something like meditation, but instead, you can meet up with friends or start reconnecting with older friends as well as try a new hobby or just get out and make connections with people which will do so much for you in the long run. When you start to think about how being calm lowers your blood pressure, this means your heart doesn’t have to work harder pumping blood to get around.

Improve Physical Activity to Improve Heart Health

Because physical activity improves your cholesterol levels, your blood lipids, your blood pressure, and of course, your weight, this could do a lot for your general sense of health and well-being as well as your heart health. The best thing to do is pick something that you can enjoy, for example, swimming is an all-over body exercise that is fantastic for getting the blood flowing and improving the heart. The rule of thumb is to do around 180 minutes of moderate to vigorous cardio per week, which is the level where you can maintain a conversation.

Ensuring you can keep healthy in your life is about prioritising so many different aspects of your general health, and this includes looking after your heart. If you could look after your heart you are, in essence, keeping a lot of health problems at bay.
