HOW TO MAINTAIN A RELAXING BEDROOM

    June 10, 2023 in LIFESTYLE

The warmer weather has arrived, so it’s time to refresh your bedroom for the new season. I spoke to luxury bedroom experts at Feather & Black to get their top tips for cleaning and maintaining a relaxing bedroom to help improve your sleep and wellness.

A Reddit poll revealed that over half of people have a messy bedroom, so I made sure to get you some expert tips to help you change that this season.

Feather & Black have uncovered that 56% of people consider their bedrooms messy in a recent survey found online, suggesting many people don’t know how much an untidy bedroom can impact your sleep quality and general mood.

According to a study by the Sleep Foundation, a tidy bedroom can increase sleep quality by up to 20%. Feather & Black have delved into the importance of bedroom organisation and have shared their top seven expert tips, so you can get a Pinterest-worthy bedroom.

    Declutter with the 90/90 rule

Laura Burnett, a luxury bedroom expert from Feather & Black comments that:

“Spring is the perfect time to declutter your bedroom. To do this, try using the 90/90 rule: part ways with items not used in the past 90 days and unlikely to be used in the next 90. This helps you to create a more organised and visually appealing bedroom, setting the stage for restful sleep.”

    Refresh your bedroom layout

Rearranging the layout of your bedroom and incorporating statement furniture pieces can add both organisation and sophistication to your space. It’s a great way to upgrade your bedroom.

    Laura Burnett comments:

“While you’re moving things around to spring clean, take the opportunity to revitalise your bedroom. Try moving your bed to a different part of the room to follow the sun, or add a stylish new furniture piece, such as a side table or tallboy. Experimenting with different arrangements will help you find the perfect balance between form and function, making your bedroom feel fresh and inviting for months to come.”

    Upgrade your bedding

Your sleep quality can be negatively impacted if you use low-quality bedding. Investing in luxurious bedding ensures you are not only delightfully cosy, but also able to maintain a comfortable temperature while you sleep.

    Laura Burnett comments:

“As part of your spring cleaning, have a refresh of your bedding collection and invest in luxurious, high-thread-count linens, plush pillows, and a supportive mattress to create a comfortable sleep environment. Invest in natural, breathable fabrics that will keep you cool during spring nights and warm in the winter months.”

    Establish a nightly reset routine

Laura Burnett shares her advice on the importance of a nightly reset routine:

“If time isn’t on your side, carve out just five minutes each night to reset your bedroom by putting away clothes, tidying surfaces, and preparing your space for a good night’s sleep.

“Not only will this simple routine help maintain the luxury and organisation achieved during your spring cleaning efforts, but you’ll create a bedtime habit that tells your brain it is time to wind down.”

    Incorporate greenery and earth tones

    Laura Burnett comments:

“Plants have a number of benefits when it comes to sleep quality, and they are a great way to incorporate relaxing earth tones into your bedroom.

“Refresh your bedroom with a touch of nature by adding plants during your spring clean, the perfect decoration for the season of growth. Choose low-maintenance foliage, such as a snake plant or pothos, which will also help purify the air, promote relaxation and improve wellbeing.”

    Introduce calming fragrances

Research has shown that our sense of smell is lowered while we sleep, but that doesn’t mean your bedroom can’t benefit from the addition of calming fragrances.

    Laura Burnett comments:

“Many cleaning products have citrus or chemical smells, which aren’t going to help you create a relaxing space. If possible, try to use fragrance-free and natural products when spring cleaning in your bedroom.

“Once you’ve finished cleaning, use essential oils or candles with calming fragrances, such as lavender or chamomile, to create the perfect, soothing atmosphere for sleep.”

    Rotate and clean your mattress

A well-maintained mattress is essential to a healthier sleeping environment and improved sleep quality, which is why it is so important to invest in a high-quality mattress to begin with.

    Laura Burnett comments:

“Many people often overlook their mattress when spring cleaning.

“Rotating it with the seasons will help maintain its support and improve longevity. You can also air your mattress with the sheets pulled back daily to keep the sleep surface fresh. Use a soft brush to remove dust and consider a mattress protector to keep it clean for a healthier sleeping environment.”

Laura Burnett emphasises the significance of spring cleaning and creating a luxurious bedroom environment:

“A thoughtfully organised and tidy bedroom plays a crucial role in improving your sleep quality and overall wellbeing.

“Our hectic lives can often lead to us feeling stressed and tired, which makes it even more important to have a personal sanctuary where we can unwind and relax.

“By incorporating these tips into your summer cleaning routine, you’ll not only transform your bedroom into a haven of relaxation but also set the foundation for healthier sleeping habits and increased productivity. Investing in your bedroom environment is an investment in your overall health and happiness.”

Enjoy your refreshed bedroom this summer.
