HOW TO PLAN A SUNNY & STRESS-FREE COUPLES ESCAPE

    September 23, 2026 in TRAVEL
    Plan a couples escape

A sunny getaway is the best antidote when life feels overwhelming. But fail to plan properly and your holiday might turn into yet another source of stress. Issues with logistics, conflicting expectations and overambitious itineraries can all interrupt efforts for relaxation, while thorough preparation and careful consideration can help ensure a peaceful experience and amazing memories. Follow these five steps to plan a stress-free sunshine escape with your partner.

    1. Choose a diverse destination

The best holiday destinations have something for everyone – and then some. Instead of just picking from the trending holiday hotspots, make sure that you consider both your and your partner’s interests when you’re planning the trip and choose a location that aligns.

There are endless diverse destinations that offer varied scenery, activities and attractions in one place. Consider mountain-backed beaches on volcanic islands, historic regions with countryside and coastline or cities in the cradle of hills that are criss-crossed with hiking and biking trails.

Remember to consider travel times when choosing your destination. Different areas may look close together on a mapbut be difficult to connect in reality.

    2. Book the essentials in advance

Uncertainty causes avoidable holiday stress, and not just by causing nagging worry over unfinished plans. Leaving logistics to the last minute runs the risk of flights and hotelsbeing full, forcing you into less practical and less attractive alternatives. You’re also more likely to face additional charges that suck up money you could have spent on enjoying yourselves.

You’re more likely to face issues if you’re travelling to a popular destination during peak season, but with any itinerary, getting ahead is the best way to secure what you want – and gain that oh-so-valuable peace of mind. Before you go, your flights, accommodation, transport and insurance should all be in place. Booking these itinerary foundations as early as possible is the secret to securing the best deals.

    3. Prioritise where you stay

Accommodation shapes your entire holiday. Good accommodation ensures comfort and convenience. Poor accommodation risks your happiness and even your wellbeing. Even if you plan to spend most of the time outside in the sunshine, your evening sanctuary can make or break the overall experience.

Start with a macro view, assessing the scope of potential places to stay. Depending on your destination, this will likely include resorts, boutique hotels, villas and guesthouses. Each offers unique pros and cons, depending on your perspective. For example, beach resort holidays in Tenerife give you instant access to a wide range of facilities, over-water villa stays in the Maldives are oriented around peace and privacy and mountain guesthouses focus on nailing the basics in convenient locations.

Once you’ve identified the type of holiday accommodation that suits your needs, you can do a deeper dive to identify the best value option – in terms of price and product offering. Comparison websites are a useful tool for browsing all available options together.

    4. Plan one special experience

Leaving room for spontaneity in an itinerary on a couples holiday is important. Often, many of the most enjoyable parts of a holiday are discovered by chance. A relaxed itinerary also plays into your desire for peace, giving you plenty of space for chilling out and reconnecting with your loved one. However, planning one special experience in advance provides an anchor for the trip and ensures you have a stand-out moment you can hold onto when you’re back to reality.

The experience should feel meaningful to both of you. This could be a sunset catamaran cruise, a private cooking class, a jeep safari through a wildlife park or a climb to a showstopping summit view. Or it could be as simple as dinner at a well-reviewed restaurant in a beautiful setting. The anticipation helps to drive excitement as you count down to your holiday.

Research local experiences thoroughly before you travel, reading recent reviews to identify reputable providers and the best possible options. Reserve the activity early if the availability looks limited.
