I wanted to share with you some of the fashion trends that i’ve been most looking forward to wearing this season, since I saw looks from the AW19 catwalk shows months ago. I’ve teamed up with Very.co.uk to bring you this post, so that I can give you ideas of how to translate these trends into more affordable and wearable outfits.
This is a sponsored post with Very.co.uk, but all opinions are my own.
Autumn is the season that I like the most, and it’s the time of year that I feel I can most easily show off my own personal style – I love layering, I love cosy and heritage fabrics, and I have an incredibly pale skin tone which seems to be more fitting to autumn and winter.
Minimal, Quality NudesAll items from Very.co.uk – V by Very Relaxed Jacket Rust, £45 | V by Very Wrap Coat, £75 | V by Very Fisherman Rib-Shoulder Jumper, £28 | Topshop Slouch Peg Trousers, £46 | Topshop Silk Shirt, £60
This is a trend that makes you look very professional, organised and well put together, so it’s perfect for the office. Even at weekends, this trend screams ‘indoor girl’ who’s unlikely to be found doing housework or in the sand pit with the kids. This trend is about beige and caramel-coloured, quality, luxe investment pieces. It’s about well-made, long-lasting garments in heritage fabrics such as wool, cashmere, tweed and leather. Stella McCartney, Jill Sander, Margaret Howell and Loewe all showed off this trend beautifully in their AW19 catwalk shows. You don’t have to feel guilty about purchasing pieces to adopt this trend, as they’ll never go out of fashion. Maybe next year you might just not be doing the look head-to-toe.
Cardigans are CoolAll items from Very.co.uk – Topshop Button Up Knitted Cardigan, £32 | V by Very Vertical Rib Button Cardigan, £30 | V by Very Button Through Shaped Hem Cardigan, £30 | Oasis Zig Zag Stitch Edge to Edge Cardigan, £45 | V by Very Button Up Cardigan, £45
If you are of my generation (mid 30s), this is going to be the time to seriously regret not raiding your Nana’s wardrobe when you had the chance. Big, oversized, knitted cardigans are huge this AW19, whichever way you wear them – open, buttoned up, belted, tucked in, or tied over your shoulders. They don’t have to be in traditional prints such as the Argyle diamond (although Chanel and Molly Goddard did style these superbly), as Miu Miu updated their inclusion of cardigans with camoflage, and Christopher Kane ditched buttons in favour of zips and embellishments.
Gothic FloralsAll items from Very.co.uk – V by Very Shirred High Neck Burnout Blouse, £28 | Superdry Skylar Lace Insert Maxi Dress, £65 | Mint Velvet Gabriella Floral Print Dress, £130 | V by Very Shirred Waist Midi Dress, £40|V by Very Wide-Leg Jumpsuit, £25
Dark, brooding floral prints and detailed floral embroidery was all over the AW19 catwalks. It’s a luxe and pretty trend that Prada, Marc Jacobs and Dries Van Noten showed off beautifully. The most used flower seemed to be the rose, the symbol of love, romance and decadence. Alexander McQueen used a blue rose motif, Prada opted for the traditional red, and Giorgio Armani went with white.
Ruffles & SparklesAll items from Very.co.uk – V by Very Polka Dot Mesh Frill Top, £22 | Forever Unique Polka Dot Ruffle Maxi Dress, £77 | Monsoon Dani Sequin Tie Blouse, £70 | River Island Sequin Embellished Shift Dress, £65 | Frock & Frill Ginny Embellished Shift Dress, £155
Two of my favourite words. Put them together and they are simply divine. If ruffles plus sparkles sounds too much for you, you can wear them seperately and just contain them to evening wear. I say ‘go big or go home’. Do not just wear these in the evening – you can totally go to Starbucks and get your morning coffee dressed like this. Just say that Celine told me so! A la Celine, you could even mix sequins, ruffled collars AND a stiff heritage check caramel skirt together; killing three birds with one outfit. Christopher Kane did this trend well as an evening look, as did Christian Dior. Can I also just add that I NEED that bright pink, frou frou, ruffled and frilled extravaganza dress from Molly Goddard?!
