This summer has been going by so fast, but it’s by no means over yet! I still have many trips planned and will be continuing summer dressing on those into October. In this post, I wanted to share my summer style tips with you and some of my own rules for summer dressing. I always groom myself to look elegant and lady-like, but still comfortable. This is the summer to have fun! Keep reading to master summer style 2022.
I find summer dressing the easiest season to put outfits together for. This is because the amount of pieces of clothing I wear at one time dramatically increases. In autumn, winter and spring, there are so many more visible layers and elements to consider and style together – cardigans, plus coats/jackets, scarfs etc. I ensure my hair, skin and body are always groomed in summer, and I throw on a summer dress with a pair of women’s shoes and I’m good to go.. Then, I add a cardigan and a handbag if this is required for where i’m going/the weather outside.
I wanted to show you some of the pieces I picked up from Very for my travels this summer and share my key summer dressing tips with you. They are one of my favourite stores for summer dressing.
Summer style tips you need to know
Add prints and frills to your summer style
For me, in the summer I nearly always wear a dress unless i’m just popping out to the shops or the gym. Due to the fact you have less layers and elements to your outfit in this summer, take advantage of this by experimenting with adding more prints to your wardrobe. In this summer, women’s summer dresses don’t necessarily need to be matched to any other items of clothing as it can be worn on it’s own, so choose a printed one.
Get a dress that makes a statement and let it stand on its own with bare legs and a pair of white trainers or ballet flats. If prints really aren’t your bag, choose a dress with lots of interesting ruffles, frills or balloon sleeves to create the same impact. My summer style tip is to be playful!
Add colour into your summer wardrobe
Another summer style tip I have for you is to really include colour in your wardrobe in the summer. I love girly pastel shades and the more pink the better. The summer and spring are the seasons where I can really ramp up these colours in my wardrobe and not look out of place. Personally, I don’t like neons; but if pastels aren’t your thing, the same applies to neon colours. Summer style 2022 is the time to really play with colour and the season where people appreciate pretty colours the most. I feel my most lady-like and elegant in the summer and this is because of the shapes, prints and colours I wear then.

I always groom myself
I am now sharing one of my most important summer style tips. You kill a perfect outfit by not being groomed. If you groom yourself, you will look better in your clothes. Style neat hair – for me that’s a smooth tie-back or wearing it down and sleek with a hairband. I obsess over hairdbands. They make you look more groomed, especially if you are having a bad hair day. Grooming yourself is also about your body. I like to have smooth, freshly moisturised skin on my legs, arms and decolletage. I also need skin that looks healthy, plump and glowy, whether I wear make-up or not.
As long as I brush my brows up in their laminated look I’m feel groomed. Plus if I have some lip gloss or balm on, along with good skincare. When I have these I can go makeup-free. Nails must must must be neat. Whether you choose a clean, short look a la Harriet Westmoreland, long nails with a perfect gel manicure, or just bare clean nails with a slick of clear polish, they must be groomed! Finally, adding jewellery to compliment your style is another way to look groomed and like you’ve made an effort.

Summer style 2022 – it’s all about dresses!
I wear dresses all year round, but for me, summer really is the season of the dress. They make me feel elegant and lady-like. If you aren’t normally a dress wearer, summer is the season to start experimenting. They are so easy to wear and can be so comfortable if you go for a non-structured smock or shirred dress, which are pretty much all I wear. I don’t have a waist, so I create one. I wear a dress that’s shirred (elasticated) on the bust. It fits snuggly there and flairs out to create that illusion of a waist. Similarly, empire line smock dresses will help with this too; just not as much. These are my summer style tips for plus-size bodies like mine.I hope you’ve found my summer style tips helpful.
