Lots of new SPF skincare products have been hitting my doormat recently and I’ve been trying them out – paying particular attention to the formula and the feel of them on my skin. Here are three that I think you really need to get for yourself.
The first of the two face products that I recommend is The Body Shop Drops of Youth Youth Fresh Emulsion SPF 20* (£22 from The Body Shop). This has a very light milky gel consistency, like a serum, and doesn’t feel sticky on the skin. It actually feels quite moisturising.
I’ve been using this as my everyday facial SPF and I apply it over my daily serum. I work from home, so on lots of days I’m only outside to pop to the shops, head to a local restaurant for lunch or dinner inside, or just to take the bins out – making SPF 20 perfect for me. This product also protects your skin from air pollution and UV rays, which can cause premature ageing. It has UVA and UVB filters and is infused with natural plant-based anti-pollutants.
For higher coverage days, I also really recommend the Murad City Skin Age Defence Broad Spectrum SPF 50* (£45 from Murad). This is a bit thicker and heavier than The Body Shop product, but it’s still very light and non-greasy in consistency; especially for an SPF 50. It’s 100% mineral and is complete skin protection.
I use this on days that I know I’m going to be actually spending more than just a couple of minutes outside i.e. car journeys of any real distance, shopping trips, eating lunch or dinner al fresco, or actual sunbathing. As well as having a high sun protection factor, it also protects your skin from 5 environmental aggressors – blue light from electronic devices, infrared radiation (e.g. from heated car seats or microwaves), air pollution, UVA and UVB rays. Genius!
Finally, I have a sun protection product for hands. So many people forget to protect their hands from the sun; even though your hands are one of the first places that show ageing. The Hero Project Hand Rehab* (£15 from The Hero Project) is a jumbo tube of non-greasy hand and nail cream that is broad spectrum SPF 20. It’s also enriched with diamond dust, hyaluronic acid and aloe vera to strengthen, hydrate and moisturise. This absorbs into the skin really well, and leaves them feeling soft and clean. It has a light floral scent, but it’s barely noticeable.
